Influence of expiratory positive airway pressure on cardiac autonomic modulation at rest and in submaximal exercise in COPD patients BJMBR
da L. Goulart,C.; San Martin,E.A.; Mansour,K.M.K.; Schneiders,P.B.; da Silva,A.L.G..
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP) on heart rate variability (HRV) indices at rest and during 6-min walk test (6MWT) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Fifteen moderate to severe COPD patients were randomized and evaluated with and without (Non-EPAP) a 5 cmH2O EPAP device. Respiratory rate (RR) was collected at rest (5 min), during the 6MWT (5 min), and at recovery (5 min). Indices of HRV were computed in the time domain, in the frequency domain, and nonlinear analysis. For EPAP and Non-EPAP during the 6MWT, we found an increased mean heart rate (HR) (P=0.001; P=0.001) while mean RR (P=0.001; P=0.015) and RR tri index decreased (P=0.006; P=0.028). Peripheral oxygen...

INVESTIGAÇÃO DO NDVI E REFLECTÂNCIA DAS BANDAS DO VERMELHO E INFRAVERMELHO-PRÓXIMO DE SENSORES DISTINTOS SIMULADOS POR MEIO DE DADOS DO HYPERION PARA CANA-DE-AÇÚCAR E FLORESTA NATURAL Engenharia na Agricultura

Presence of age- and sex-related differences in heart rate variability despite the maintenance of a suitable level of accelerometer-based physical activity BJMBR
Spina,G.D.; Gonze,B.B.; Barbosa,A.C.B.; Sperandio,E.F.; Dourado,V.Z..
There is currently a lack of information adjacent on the influence of sex and age in heart rate variability (HRV), adjusted according to accelerometer-based physical activity (PADL). We hypothesized that the effect of sex and age on the HRV should be reduced or absent in individuals with a suitable PADL level. We aim to evaluate the influence of sex and age on HRV, adjusted for the confounding effects of the PADL level. A total of 485 age-stratified subjects (18–39, 40–59, and ≥60 years) underwent HRV analyses at rest and 7-day assessments of accelerometer-based PADL. Multivariate analyses of covariance were done using log-transformed HRV indices as outcomes, age and sex as fixed factors, and PADL, cardiovascular risk, fat body mass, and heart rate (HR) at...

Seasonality of viral respiratory infections in Southeast of Brazil: the influence of temperature and air humidity BJM
Gardinassi,Luiz Gustavo; Simas,Paulo Vitor Marques; Salomão,João Batista; Durigon,Edison Luiz; Trevisan,Dirce Maria Zanetta; Cordeiro,José Antonio; Lacerda,Mauricio Nogueira; Rahal,Paula; Souza,Fátima Pereira de.
Viruses are the major cause of lower respiratory tract infections in childhood and the main viruses involved are Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus (HRSV), Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), Influenzavirus A and B (FLUA and FLUB), Human Parainfluenza Virus 1, 2 and 3 (HPIV1, 2 and 3) and Human Rhinovirus (HRV). The purposes of this study were to detect respiratory viruses in hospitalized children younger than six years and identify the influence of temperature and relative air humidity on the detected viruses. Samples of nasopharyngeal washes were collected from hospitalized children between May/2004 and September/2005. Methods of viral detection were RT-PCR, PCR and HRV amplicons were confirmed by hybridization. Results showed 54% (148/272) of viral positivity....

Simple online algorithm for detecting cow’s ECG beat-to-beat interval using a microcontroller CIGR Journal
Tiusanen, Johannes; Pastell, Matti.
This paper describes an online algorithm for detecting cow’s beat-to-beat interval on a small embedded microcontroller. The target device is an ECG implant which only provides limited calculation power and insufficient storage memory for long term complete ECG data logging. No common computationally efficient method for detecting the human R-wave was found successful for cattle ECG data with the used measurement configuration. Our algorithm detects a cow’s S-wave, which is the most distinguishable part of the QRS-complex. The offset and amplitude adaptive algorithm utilizes only arithmetic operations and logic conditions.
